2009 Nominees for Nigeria National Honours Award
The list of recipients for 2009 National Honours Awards is out.The list shows that most of the awardees are public and political office holders whose major credentials for the recognition are the offices they occupy. The original list was submitted to President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua while he was alive. After his demise the list was further panel-beaten to accommodate some interests. Second Niger Bridge will be a Reality - Daggash
The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Mohammed Sanusi Daggash has assured Nigerians that the government is committed to commencing work on the 2nd Niger Bridge and would ensure its completion within the time frame of 3 years. The Minister gave this assurance when the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu paid him a courtesy visit in his Mabushi office.

He informed the Deputy Senate President of his intention to professionalize the Ministry so that Nigerians can derive maximum benefit from projects embarked upon by the Ministry. In furtherance of this, he said plans had been concluded to send a Special Audit Team to the South East zone to verify the capacity of contractors handling jobs on behalf of the Ministry to determine their capacities to complete the projects in record time. The audit would be on personnel, equipment etc.

He therefore, solicits support from the National Assembly on adequate funding, while restating his intention to put in place a comprehensive data bank in the ministry.

Responding, the Deputy Senate President emphasized the importance of the activities of the Ministry to every Nigerian and for this reason assured the ministers of the support and cooperation of the Senate in the task of making life more comfortable to all Nigerians.
